STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: ’90s Comeback

I spotted this Fashionista in my narrative journalism class and I had to snap a picture. I loved how she repurposed her lacy bustier top to wear for daytime. I would have never thought to do so, but the creative styling choice makes something that is generally reserved for nights out a lot more versatile. A simple white crop top styled underneath lends a ’90s feel to the look, something you might expect Kate Moss to do back in the day.

The ’90s are back in a major way. Choker necklaces seem to be the latest accessory craze (and have been for a while), but there are other ways to channel the decade as well. Throw a T-shirt under a slip dress or a bustier (like this Fashionista did here). Add a bomber jacket for a trendy upgrade from your favorite leather motorcycle jacket.

While I love leather jackets as much as the next girl, for the first time in a long time, I have been rethinking my go-to staple. If you didn’t happen to snag a Pablo bomber (a.k.a pretty much everyone), do not despair. Bombers have made their way into most of your favorite fast-fashion stores already. Bombers are a bit more casual and high-street than your trusty biker jacket, so while I will never be giving mine up, I may purchase a bomber in the near future.

The high-waisted black jeans balance out the white crop top and even more cropped bustier. It’s usually best to pair something cropped with something more elongated, like this Fashionista did here. High-heeled ankle boots are both edgy and a little glam. Just make sure you choose a pair you can walk in if you plan on wearing them to class.

So what’s my style advice of the week? Shop your closet. That’s a term that’s been thrown around a lot in magazines and style blogs, but it’s true. Try to think of new ways to style old favorites, like this Fashionista did here with her bustier top. You’ll save money in the long run.
