Sorority recruitment season has come and gone, which means, for many of us, we’ll be attending classes and philanthropy events all fall with several hundred students wearing the same exact T-shirt and shorts. And while we totally love our sisters, we’re also all about putting our own personal spin on our tried-and-true letter shirts. With that in mind, I asked College Fashionista community members at colleges around the country to give us the scoop on where they score the best sorority merch, as well as how they wear it while still keeping their personal style intact. Keep scrolling for some serious inspiration that will help you think beyond the T-shirt–and-sweats combo next time you reach for your Greek gear.
Add an On-Trend Jacket
“My everyday look for class typically includes a sorority shirt paired with distressed jeans, a lightweight jacket, and either a cute pair of sandals or, if the weather’s getting cooler, fashion-forward ankle boots. For finishing touches, I normally throw on a simple necklace, a watch, and stacked bracelets.” — Anna Gavalick, Chi Omega at Bradley University, Class of 2018
Dress It Up With Statement Accessories
“I think the best way to dress up a Greek letter shirt is accessories. I always try to pair my Phi Sig apparel with layered necklaces, fun earrings, and great shoes to make the look more stylish. I also gravitate toward cool pants like two-toned denim or jeans with lots of rips.” — Sarah Ann Quick, Phi Sigma Sigma at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Class of 2020
Swap Distressed Denim for Leggings
“I try not to wear my sorority gear with athletic shorts or leggings so that I’m not hanging around in sweats 24/7. Instead, I like to wear my T-shirts with ripped denim shorts or jeans, Vans, and a cool belt. When it gets a little cooler, I’ll top off the look with a great cardigan.” — Ally Frankel, Pi Beta Phi at Tulane University, Class of 2019
Show Even More Pride With Your Jewelry
“I love to wear my sorority shirts with cute jean skirts and shoes while also adding fun Greek jewelry to coordinate. I love my Phi Mu jewelry because I can add it to any normal outfit and still show a little Greek love.” — Liv Graul, Phi Mu at Belmont University, Class of 2020
Use Your Tee as a Layering Piece
“I like to layer my Alpha Phi T-shirt under a slip dress or tuck it into some high-waisted jeans with a faux-fur jacket on top and Vans to finish the look.” — Peyton Roy, Alpha Phi at Washington State University, Class of 2018
