Hey there Fashionistos and Fashionistas alike. My name is Alex Al-Ubaidi (the last name is much easier to pronounce than it looks, I promise you). I’m a junior at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Advertising and minoring in Fashion Business. This is my first semester interning with CollegeFashionista and I’m beyond excited that I get to be a part of the brand new section they just unveiled called “The Guys.”
Growing up in rural Wisconsin, it wasn’t “cool” to be interested in clothes unless it was something camouflage you could buy at the nearest hunting supply store, so clothes were always more of a guilty pleasure of mine. When I decided to move to Chicago for school, I took in lots of inspiration from fellow students and all the other unique people that make up the Windy City. I never thought fashion was something you could make a career out of, but look at me now! I’m studying fashion in school and also finding out there are TONS of ways you can work in the field without being a designer.
With my personal style, I always strive for the perfect balance between fashion and function. If you feel comfortable in it and manage to turn some heads while walking down the street, you’ve hit the jackpot. To show you what I’m talking about, I’ve put together an outfit which I believe embodies both of these qualities.
In my opinion, you can never go wrong with a cool pair of jeans. Since the jeans I have on make a statement on their own, I decided to keep the rest of the outfit simple with one of my favorite shirts, a cool overcoat (because winter) and a pair of shoes like these. Put all these together and I guarantee you’ll be turning heads in no time.
