How-To Dress Like the ’70s in 2017

It may be 2017, but I still think wearing ’60s or ’70s-inspired clothing will never go out of style. From floral patterns to platform shoes, this outfit starts my summer on a fun, spunky, and happy tone.

Two-pieces not only make putting an outfit together easier in the morning, they also have a beautiful symmetry of matching both the top and bottom patterns. For all the Fashionistas on a budget, have peace of mind that I obtained my two-piece for a smart-shopper price from Forever 21. I especially love a two-piece in warmer weather. Two-pieces are very versatile. You can pair them with a light jacket or an airy summer cardigan to change your outfit up. Slip some gladiator sandals or casual wedges on and they can be easily dressed up or down for any occasion.

I chose to match my floral cream colored two-piece with a jean jacket. I am head-over-heels for the embroidery on denim trend. I am a firm believer that there is never a wrong time to wear floral. However, the essence of spring and summer could not scream, “wear floral” loud enough. Combining denim and floral creates an effortless and cute style.

Another great aspect of two-pieces is that they allow you to add more detail to a look by playing with various types of accessories. For this look, I decided to drive the flower power ’70s look home by wearing large gold circular earrings with a kaleidoscope pattern. I wore several gold rings, including a small daisy flower, the yin and yang symbol, and an intertwined leaf ring. Chokers scream the ’70s, so I matched the white of my outfit with my white lace choker. I like to add a pair of sunglasses to my looks when strolling around on a sunny day. The ones I chose to wear with this outfit make me feel like Sandy from Grease, so how could they not put me in a good mood? Overall, layering jewelry with a similar theme ties the outfit together by creating unique touches of detail that draw the eyes in.

The last, and my favorite, part of the outfit is the classic ’70s-inspired platform shoe. Not only does the rust color pop against the light tones of the outfit, but the simplicity of the shoes makes the outfit ironically exciting. I am sure you’re wondering whether these were comfortable to wear. Well, add that to the list of positives about platform shoes and vintage inspired clothing because they were extremely comfortable and so much fun to wear.
