BEAUTY BAR: Dragon Tales

Into easy braids for class? My favorite (and also my Fashionista’s favorite) is the dragon braid. The dragon braid is the fun nickname for this half-up french braid. This braided half up hairstyle can easily be converted into a fierce ponytail and easily transitions from day-to-night. Braids are a simple way to make it look as if you put more effort into getting ready than you actually did, they are an easy focal point of your look. This Fashionista is a master of braids!

To achieve this braided look, you want to begin detangling all the knots out of your hair. This Fashionista’s favorite go-to brush is her Wet Brush, it helps her detangle without feeling as if all the hair is being ripped out of her head. After that, you want to begin sectioning off your hair, for this look you’re only focusing on the top portion. Following sectioning off your hair, you want to begin with three small pieces of hair to start off your braid. Start french braiding as normal, going over and under, repeating about five times. Upon completion of that you will end up with two strands, with holding the two grab a third from the crown section of your head, so you have three strands again. Begin french braiding as normal again until you achieve the same process until the top of your hair is completely braided. Once the top section is braided, begin braiding into a regular braid. Upon completion of the regular braid, secure with a strong elastic. To secure fly aways she used her favorite hairspray from John Frieda. For extra flair, this Fashionista blew out the ends of her hair using her daily duo: her round brush and blow dryer.

This look has no high-end products, and is easy for anyone to recreate. It would also work for curly hair! To get this look, follow the steps above or check out the braid world of  Youtube. For my visual learners search “Half Up French Braid” on Youtube or any other video forum.

Cute and simple, this Fashionista was ready to do some shopping on the NYC streets!
