If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you are more than ready to say goodbye to snow and welcome back the sunshine. Winter, even in New Orleans, has never been my favorite season. I’d say I can be pretty lazy on a normal day, but throw in some cold, winter winds and freezing temperatures, and you can bet I’ll never leave my bed. So as I’m excitedly awaiting the return of blooming flowers and longer days, I find myself yearning to reach for those flowy sundresses, and trendy skirts I sported all summer. Unfortunately, the weather isn’t quite as eager for spring as I am, and the return of warm weather is still on the horizon. So, in order to combat this conflict of interest between the seasons and I, I’ve discovered the perfect solution: knee socks. It may be too cold to wear my favorite little dress, but add some chunky knit socks and it’s basically like wearing a pair of jeans. They also add trendy, edgy vibes to my otherwise basic outfits, so I can stay warm and look stylish at the same time.

This Fashionista clearly shares in my opinions of winter. When jeans and sweaters start to become tiresome, she reaches for a fun, suede mini skirt to spice things up a little. By adding her black knee-highs, her look becomes practical and comfortable, while still being infinitely more exciting than a pair of black leggings or skinny jeans. Even though she had originally bought this skirt for a late summer evening or a day out and about in early fall, she now has the ability to wear it all year round. From the hot sun of July to the cold winds of January, a simple pair of knee socks allows her to transition any outfit with no effort at all.

To finish off her look, this Fashionista paired her skirt with a simple black turtleneck for added warmth, and finished off with a long statement necklace and the perfect pair of booties. She looks effortlessly chic and totally appropriate for the season while getting to enjoy her wonderful spring wardrobe at the same time. So even while the weather refuses to cooperate with all her style needs, she can still chose to welcome the spring season whenever she wants. Who knew knee socks could do all of that?

How To: Worried about creating a cohesive look when adding knee socks to an outfit? Try sticking to solid colored socks that match one of the colors in your ensemble. Then, pair them with shoes of the same or similar color to elongate your legs and bring everything together.
