STYLE GURU STYLE: Mixed Prints

Mixing prints and patterns is a new trend that many of us are afraid to dive into and the truth is, it’s not an easy trend to interpret. Giambattista Valli’s resort 2016 has me drooling over the concept of mixing patterns and it really shows the art of mixed prints. Each look pushes the limit with intricate detail and bold, wild colors. When looking through the collection I noticed a lot of floral prints and striped patterns. Black and white throughout the collection created fluidity and really allowed the bold colors to stand out.

My outfit brings together two classics: stripes and floral print. These floral shorts are perfect for summer and this trend. The bold mix of pink and green is a real eye catcher and the touch of lace adds the vintage feel that I’m always searching for! As I’ve said before, stripes are my go-to so it was a no brainer when it came to pairing this striped tank with these flirty shorts. By adding a pink statement necklace, it allowed me to make the look coherent and polished. I topped off my look with a fun handbag and my favorite cat eye sunnies. Mixing prints isn’t as easy as Giambattista Valli makes it look. Choosing two patterns that do not relate, like stripes and floral, is usually the trick to creating a perfectly balanced look. Also, I find that blending a colored pattern with simple, clean black and white is a great way to avoid looking like a circus clown.
