STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Someday My Prints Will Come

Playing with patterns can be super tricky when it comes to fashion. There was once a time where I wouldn’t dare combine polka-dots and plaid in the same outfit and I wouldn’t even go near paisley. At one point I was flipping through an issue of Vogue and I noticed that designers were all over the place with prints and I didn’t hate the way they looked when styled the right way. I finally tried mixing styles and now I love searching for new pattern creations in my closet.

This week’s Fashionista is wearing one of my favorite pattern combinations: stripes and floral. With a black and white striped crop top under a long floral kimono, she truly knows how to play up patterns in the right way. While keeping the rest of her outfit quite black, we are able to focus on her statement pieces and adding a large brimmed hat to the ensemble makes her look so trendy. In the large scheme of the fashion world, Fashionistas/os are praised for being so daring with their outfits and when you let your fashion flag fly, you can only get good vibes back.

For those of you who would like to experiment with patterns, I recommend just go for it! Play around with the patterns and prints in your closet and see what you like together and what you don’t and the next time that you are out shopping you can gravitate to the prints to see what you can create!

What Is Your Style Advice? “Make sure to not go overboard when mixing patterns. It’s best to make sure the prints have the same colors in them and make sure there’s a neutral shade as either a bottom or accessory to balance out the outfit.”
