STYLE GURU STYLE: Sporty-Chic

Ah my fellow Fashionista/os, the time has finally come for us to chat and relish in all of the amazing wonders that was New York Fashion Week this year! Fashion lovers across the globe united as one as we rapidly scrolled through Twitter updates, live Snapchats and Instagram feeds to soak in all of the action of the style-studded week. Though I had many favorites this year, there was one collection that reigned supreme for me. This was the collection that included the famous runway models Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. Gigi and Kendall strutted their stuff along with other models in Tommy Hilfiger’s 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The most unique thing about this collection? It had one common and unique theme: sports.

This is not a common theme that is typically seen on the glitzy runways of fashion week. However, Hilfiger defied the odds with a punch, his collection consisting of old-fashioned varsity jackets, jerseys and high heeled cleats (yes, yes I did just say high heeled cleats). The models bore tough and “don’t mess with me” expressions as they strutted down the runway in their killer outfits, or shall I say, uniforms. Though still keeping a sporty theme, Hilfiger still managed to make the outfits appear effortlessly chic. How did he manage to do that? Simple: mix sporty elements with chic and femme pieces.

Throughout the collection you see various pairings of boyish jerseys with pleated skirts, meshed tights and heels. Though it is unfortunately still too cold for skirts and tights here in the chilly city of Louisville, KY, I still wanted to incorporate Hilfiger’s look into my daily wardrobe. Instead of freezing in a pair of tights and a skirt, I opted for maroon skinny jeans and a jersey inspired sweatshirt stitched with a floral print number. I put a girly spin on my sporty look with a pair of pink Steve Madden shades and my Betsey Johnson tote. For accessories, I chose a chunky tapestry necklace and a simple gold ring. Completing my look, I bundled up in a hooded puffer coat, as seen in a few looks from Hilfiger’s collection. Though my look isn’t exactly as intimidating as the brawny uniforms you would typically see on the football field, I still think I could kick some butt in my floral print!

Get My Look: 1. A femme jersey shirt. 2. Some bold shades. 3. A chic puffer coat.
