STYLE GURU STYLE: Simplistic Structure

Simplistic structure is exactly what Alber Elbaz had in mind for Lanvin’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. After countless hours of research and using various ethnographic skills in order to source out the definition of what women looked for within clothing, he discovered his answer. Elbaz found that various types of women all looked for staple pieces that would be able to be transformed into various outfits. Although lustful of the dramatic and chic pieces seen on the runway, most everyday women rely on pieces that will fit within their day-to-day needs. Personally, I connected well to his collection because of its relation with a woman’s necessities. Lanvin expressed the thoughts that most women hate to admit, “We love the high-fashion look, but what we really desire is a look that can transpire as being high fashion, while being able to get through day-to-day duties.” I think his collection nailed it, spot on.

With that focus in mind, I recreated a look that follows Lanvin’s same mindset: simplistic structure. I paired a structured black high-waisted crop pant, a common item in most women’s wardrobe, with a loose-fitting long sleeve black chiffon shirt. I complemented the look with a structured gray zippered causal jacket. I felt that these pieces model Lavin’s collection by containing the high-fashion look with the sharp lines expressed within the cropped pants and the black-on-black contrast of the two interior pieces. This look is very achievable for most and definitely a statement ensemble. For the purpose of recreating the runway look, I paired the outfit with strappy black heels. For a day of running errands or a busy day of classes, I would pair this look with casual black flats or a pair of oxfords or loafers for a tomboy look.

Get My Look: 1. Structured black crop or trouser pants. 2. Black heels. 3. Structured Jacket.
