STYLE GURU BIO: Carrie Garrison

Why hello there!  My name is Carrie Garrison and I’m currently a junior at Duquesne University pursuing a dual degree in violin performance and multiplatform journalism.  This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be more excited!  I first discovered my passion for fashion early in college when I discovered my favorite designers, Marc Jacobs and Kate Spade!

I am originally from Portland, Oregon, but I have lived all over the United States.  When I was 16 years old I moved to Michigan to attend Interlochen Arts Academy and pursue my passion for violin. At the time, becoming a classical and professional violinist was my dream!  After I graduated from Interlochen I moved to Pittsburgh to attend Duquesne University and was one step closer to pursuing my dream!

After a year in college, I decided that spending my life practicing and auditioning was not for me, but I still wanted to teach violin lessons. So, I developed my interest in writing and decided to add another degree, multiplatform journalism.

Last summer I decided to pursue my interest in fashion at the London College of Fashion.  There, I pursued a summer semester abroad studying fashion business.  I took classes in fashion entrepreneurship, styling, fashion media and fashion history.  This experience completely changed my career perspectives and opened so many doors for me, including this Style Guru Internship!

This semester as a Style Guru I’m looking forward to meeting new people, highlighting the fashionably dressed college students on Duquesne’s campus and learning all I can from other Style Gurus!

My outfit features my two favorite accessories, my kate spade new york purse and Marc by Marc Jacobs rose gold watch.  I recently cut my hair and have had fun playing with my hairdo and bangs.  I styled this vintage-inspired look with a sponge bun-shaper and a lot of hair spray!

My peacoat is a gem from a busy night of Black Friday shopping!  It is from Francesca’s boutique.  Its bold cheetah print and warm fur collar make me feel like a vintage doll!  I was afraid its loud print would clash with different outfits, but it’s such a versatile coat!

The variegated brown fur vest is a piece I found at Target and could not put down.  Its neutral color makes it fit with every ensemble and it’s texture is just perfect!  I love it as much as I love my Lucky Brand black booties that I bought from Nordstrom.  Their stud embossed backs are so much fun to pair with any outfit.

My favorite part of any ensemble is always the simple touches like the accessories and make-up.  I added my favorite cat eye eyeliner and berry-colored lipstick.  Without the wing of an eyeliner I just don’t feel complete!
