WHAT TO WEAR: Traveling

‘Tis the season for summer vacation and weekend getaways! Now that the school year has come to a close and the summer travel season is upon us, there’s one thing that many of us dread—PACKING. If you’re anything like me, that daunting word can put a bit of a damper on the excitement of planning a trip, but have no fear! Prepare to put your mind at ease and to have an easy, go-to guide for all things packing.

Something I always think about before heading to the airport is what outfit to travel in. I have definitely surpassed the age where it is acceptable to put on my favorite pajamas, throw my Cinderella backpack over my shoulder and head of out of the house—although sometimes I wish I could. However, it is still important to channel that idea and wear something extra comfortable, while still looking put together. One look I particularly love for travel right now is athletic leggings, an oversized T-shirt and a pair of #RAD sneakers. Throw on a cozy sweater (airplanes are always chilly and it doubles as a blanket!), a baseball cap and some shades and you might as well be a Kardashian heading to Vegas!

Now that putting together a travel outfit seems like a piece of cake, it’s time to face the real challenge: pulling outfits for your trip. Whether you’re spending a weekend in New York City or a week on the beach in Mexico (if so, I’m very jealous of you), there’s something to keep in mind: DO NOT OVERPACK! As much as all of us Fashionistas/os love to have a million different options when it comes to being on vacation, it is much better to have a smaller variety while traveling as it’s so much less stressful when it comes to deciding what to wear while you’re away. I always pick out an outfit for each day, which may be anything from a bathing suit and a cover-up to a sundress and a jean jacket and an outfit for the nighttime. However, pack pieces that can be worn multiple times and in different ways. An example would be a black T-shirt dress that can be worn during the day with flats and a denim jacket, or at night with killer heels and accessories. I promise, versatile pieces will be your lifesavers on vacation, and you’re going to wonder how you ever lived without that black T-shirt dress!

One Simple Change: Upon landing in your travel destination, swap out those athletic leggings and sneakers with denim cut-offs and sandals to take your airplane look right into the festivities.
