STYLE GURU BIO: Hannah Frey

Hi loves! It’s time for a new year and another semester, can you believe it? I’ll be hitting the books to finish off my sophomore year of college at the University of Iowa, and I’m thrilled to once again be interning as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. Last semester, I had my first experiences with style blogging and street fashion photoshoots. I can’t wait to find even more inspiration-worthy outfits on campus to share.

If the title of this post didn’t already give it away, my name is Hannah Frey. I’m a journalism major with a love for music and personal style, and lots of both can be found in Iowa City. I truly believe that the midwest is best. I love seeing ideas and art come from unexpected places. I hope to add a little of my own creativity to the mix this semester through writing, creating new music and supporting the talents of others around me.

As far as fashion goes, comfort is key in my world. The saying ‘beauty is pain’ doesn’t always ring true. Especially when I have the option of wearing sweater or dress that looks like a lot of effort, but feels like a soft blanket.

Recently, I’ve been obsessing over faux furs, huge cardigans, and finding ways to wear wool socks with anything and everything. I like to layer statement sweaters over dresses or pair them with high waisted skirts. Slipping sheer tights underneath for a bit of warmth (and to hide my snow-white legs) gives almost every outfit an edge. My biggest challenge is almost always deciding on the perfect pair of shoes, but comfy yet heeled booties make the choice easy with a leg lengthening effect that does wonders for shorter girls like me.

When it comes to accessories, I’m a fan of subtle and classic pieces like the pearl, gold heart pendant I wear almost daily. For solid colored or simple tops, I usually add a silver or gold cuff bracelet to give the look an extra pop. Glasses can also take an outfit from good to great, and my newest lenses are my newest obsession. The dark-to-light frames add a look of sophistication to any ensemble.

Be on the lookout for more of my articles and outfit inspiration from some of the most stylish Iowans I know. Get ready for a RAD semester!
