I am a die-hard dress enthusiast. I love daytime shifts and cocktail frocks, white eyelet and black lace—you name it, I love it. Dresses are as girly as clothes can come and are perfect for nearly every occasion. Dresses are also, I like to believe, nature’s way of apologizing for the existence of pantsuits.
This Fashionista chose to wear a pretty chiffon floral maxi on this seriously hot day. The dark navy base and cinched waistline kept the piece flattering on her petite frame. I was a little late to hop on the maxi dress bandwagon—regrettably so—but I always felt that a maxi dress was simply too much fabric. However, I have since changed my ways after finding a piece—similar to this Fahsionista’s—with a sheer bottom half. The under layer of fabric ends above the knee, leaving the calves covered with only chiffon. This type of maxi is not too frumpy and still super comfy.
Today’s Fashionista shows just how a dress can work for multiple occasions. With simple silver sandals and casual braided ponies, she looks ready for a day of 5th Ave shopping or lunch with friends. By swapping her sandals out for a pair of summery wedges, her braids for a side-swept pony and her nude lips for a bold red, she can be ready for a dinner date or another nighttime Manhattan adventure.
One Simple Change: Add a cool cropped blazer and a pair of close-toed ballet flats to prep for an interview. And, of course, nothing says New York-ready like a kate spade new york structured cross-body bag. This natural and orange combo would really pop against the dark dress.
