STYLE GURU STYLE: Wooly Wonders

I have an incredibly amount of difficulty getting dressed during winter months. It’s easy to slip on a pair of leggings, fuzzy socks and a cozy sweater for a day spent studying or sipping tea by the fire. But when it’s time to venture outside into the whistling winds and teeth-chattering cold, looking stylish while simultaneously staying warm can be quite the challenge.

The solution is wearing the right coat. Avoid down coats at all costs. They might be warm, but they are also bulky, unflattering and impossible to style. This is why I’ve developed a dependency on thick, wool coats. Wool is wonderful because the textile creates sophisticated and chic garments that can also be incredibly warm. Take this coat for example. It’s stylish, flattering, over-sized and warm. Best of all, it stands out in a crowd.

I paired the coat with a cream long sleeve shirt, jeans and cozy socks for added warmth. To accentuate the gold belt buckle, I wore my chunky chain necklace. Finally, I donned booties that are both functional and fashionable for winter. Overall the look is elegant, clean and warm, making it perfect for a chilly winter day.

The next time you’re off shopping for winter coats, look for something made from wool rather than down. Wool coats are much easier to style and when you wear one you’re sure to stand out. The trick is to find a wool coat that is over-sized enough to comfortably wear thick sweaters underneath, has deep pockets and a collar to keep the chill from the back of your neck. Just remember that with a wonderful wool coat, looking chic in winter will be a breeze.
