STYLE GURU STYLE: Vintage Glam for the New Year

As you all may have noticed, velvet is back! I am incredibly excited because good quality velvet has been one of my personal favorites for years. Now that I’ve seen a multitude of ladies on campus rocking velvet during classes and throughout the weekend, I thought I’d bring out my LainaRauma velvet body suit. I can understand why people would be skeptical regarding what to wear with velvet material, so I hope this outfit inspires you to play with mixing fabrics and pairing the old with the new.

I turned evening wear into a look for an afternoon in city by pairing high-waisted light wash distressed jeans with my forest green body suit. You could wear this outfit to meetings with your school organizations, or even out to lunch with friends. I added a patterned scarf which I used as a waist belt to incorporate more primary colors and textures that tie together my jewelry, neutral shoes, and coat. I chose a oversized camel wool coat that is lined with satin and nude pointed heels for a sophisticated touch to this lively ensemble.

When you’re wearing such rich colors, I recommend using natural tones for your makeup look to show off your natural beauty, and keep your glam tasteful and classy. I used a sheer gold and neutral eyeshadow palette and was generous with my highlighter which accentuated my natural glow. I’ve realized the importance of waiting until my outfit is all put together before deciding on a lip color. In fact, I’m a lipstick fanatic so this is a vital moment in the process. For this look, I chose a buttery peach liquid lip for definition and consistency among the other color choices. This winter look will have you feeling the warmth of the colorful summer’s sky and forget about the cold January blues.
