I have been waiting until the perfect moment to write a post about the Saint Laurent spring 2015 menswear collection. As my last post of the summer, what better time is there than the present? When I first saw this collection, I was immediately inspired. The collection seamlessly mixes contrasting patterns and textures: soft fabrics with hard metals and structured leather jackets with billowing floral scarves.
What I love the most about this collection is how Saint Laurent perfectly blurs the lines between masculine and feminine styles. Many of these menswear pieces would be at home in anyone’s closet regardless of their gender. As someone who often loses interest in menswear shows, this show has changed my mindset and made me open to seeking inspiration from men’s fashion in the future.
Ponchos were a big part of this collection, paired with statement jewelry and skinny pants. I love the idea of a poncho or a cape as a way to smoothly transition a summer wardrobe into the fall. It can be thrown over lighter pieces to create an interesting layered look. This poncho from Free People is perfect for this because it it is warm like a sweater, but can be worn like a loose shawl if you just need something light to fend off the autumn breeze.
Taking a cue from Saint Laurent, I paired the poncho with floral print and lace-up suede boots. Finally, I added a statement jewelry piece with a hinged ring. I always love a small detail like this that adds something really special to an outfit.
