STYLE GURU STYLE: Punk Funk

It’s safe to say the winter vortex is out in full force in South Carolina. These past few weeks have been brutal. I can’t remember the last time I saw the sun. I could go on and on and complain about the frigid air or the constant stay of dryness that my hands stay in all semester long, but when it comes down to it, I actually love the winter season. Why? It’s simple. Fashion, fashion, fashion.

Winter gives you an opportunity to show off your sense of style from head to toe, layer by layer. This week, I was inspired by the Bouchra Jarrar fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection. This collection reminded me why black is my favorite color. Jarrar’s use of black and leather is so simple and chic, so I decided to go for a punk look.

Turtlenecks are my new obsession this winter. A turtleneck like this one will keep you warm and cozy on your walks to class. I threw on a leather jacket over my gray, fuzzy turtleneck. Leather is a staple piece in my closet. It has the ability to transform any decent outfit into an amazing one. I styled my sweater with ripped, light wash skinny jeans. I love the edgy look they give off. Lastly, I’m rocking my favorite sneakers. My quilted leather sneakers are extremely comfortable and tie in to my punk theme.

Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Try a punk rock look! You won’t regret it.

Get My Look: 1. A warm turtleneck. 2. A simple leather jacket. 3. A pair of edgy ripped, light wash jeans.
