STYLE GURU STYLE: Big, Bold and Beige

Although I should be preparing my spring wardrobe, blustery Chicago is having me resort to pre-fall 2015 for some newfound inspiration instead. While I was streaming shows left and right from New York Fashion Week, I could not help but replay Zero + Maria Cornejo’s show over and over. I could not take my eyes off of the sculpture of each design, the weight of her outerwear and her naturalistic prints. This urban-minded collection is the perfect blend of form-fitting yet oversized.

Upon my most recent shopping spree at Zara, I spotted this 100 percent handmade wool coat and as much as I tried to fight the urge, the heart cannot deny what it loves. Not only did it remind me of my love for my favorite Zero + Maria Cornejo’s collection, but it also did not help that I had a perfectly matching scarf just waiting at the apartment to complete this boxy wool outerwear. With inspiration from this beautiful designer, I wanted my outerwear to make the statement. I matched this oversized jacket with my matching wool scarf to maximize the statement, and for maximum comfort I threw on a pair of matte black leggings and my favorite pair of heeled booties. To keep my accessories minimal, I threw on my mini vintage Givenchy bag.

Given my minimally-coded closet, finding these statement neutrals are perfect to spice up the wardrobe. Investment dressing on such quality timeless pieces will not only last you, but will allow you to become that much more flexible when mixing and matching pieces.

Get My Look: 1. A warm boxy beige coat. 2. A thick blanket scarf. 3. A timeless, black mini bag.
