STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Holender

Words from the wise, AKA me, Samantha Holender, black will ALWAYS be the color of the year. I don’t care what our good, supposedly knowledgeable friends over at Pantone have to say, rose quartz and serenity are questionable choices. And now with Piper Chapman screaming left and right about orange being the new black and all, everyone’s minds are getting a little cloudy. The truth of the matter is, black is, will and will always be the new black. Hello people: it’s cliché for a reason.

The invaluable life lesson, wear black forever and always, is brought to you in part by my first completed semester at The George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs. If living in the District has taught me anything, it’s that wearing all black is powerful, chic and classy. So why bother with any other color? For that very reason, take a cue from my all-black everything and venture over to the dark side—please and thanks.

In addition to bestowing me with an all black obsession, GWU and eight in the manaña classes have given me a minimalist flair. You see, prior to my days as a collegiate, I thought it was abominable to leave the privacy of my own home sans makeup and jewelry. Oh how wrong I was! Those 10 extra minutes of sleep are much more worthwhile than a necklace, earrings and eyeliner.

Just one thing to keep in mind, under no circumstances do I want my simplistic, minimalist mentality to be mistaken for laziness, or, god forbid, confused with a lack of effort! This style is based upon solid colors and no-fuss cuts. It’s a laid back way of life that somehow manages to look effortlessly chic. In fact, this posh look is sported by some of my favorite celebrities—Kendall Jenner, Kate Hudson, Kate Beckinsale and Olivia Culpo.

So, I hope you’re ready to watch the simplistic get a little spunky and bear with me for the next semester. Guaranteed, you won’t be disappointed by the sweaters, boots and sensational style I plan on throwing your way. Bundle up, grab a cup of joe and enjoy the holiday. From your favorite, third semester, Style Guru: have an amazing 2016 and I’ll see you on the flip side.
