STYLE GURU BIO: Lauren Saxe

Hello, fellow fashion lovers! As a first time Style Guru, I am ecstatic to bring you the best of Bloomington’s street style scene. With a breathtaking campus and a pool of over 40,000 diverse, outstanding students at IU, there is inspiration everywhere, just waiting to be discovered.

Hopping over from the Buckeye State to the Hoosier State, I’m a sophomore at Indiana University’s Bloomington campus with a major in Journalism, a second concentration in Apparel Merchandising and a Spanish minor. Over the years I’ve hoarded countless fashion magazines and often find myself knee-deep in them in my room, a fairly simple task when they are up against my 5’1” frame. I dream of the day I move to New York City to pursue a career as a writer, editor or another creative position in the magazine world.

I attribute the start of my love for fashion to the days of Girl Scout camp, where I used to run around in sparkly costumes, unlike the other girls who sensibly wore their jean shorts and T-shirts.

While my unhealthy affinity for cheetah print and cat eyes will always remain, my current fashion obsessions include fringe, velvet and a newly acquired pair of Michael Kors heels. My style lands somewhere between girly and artsy, occasionally adding tougher accents. I firmly believe that you can never go wrong with black and white, and have been known to buy shoes in the children’s department from time to time.

Aside from clothing and style, music and the arts hold a special place in my heart. Music and pop culture affect fashion, and vice versa, so when the two overlap, I believe the most interesting style combinations and stories are created. As I begin my journey with the CollegeFashionista team, I hope to channel this into my reporting!

With the upcoming new year, I encourage you to take personal style risks this semester. I look forward to bringing you looks and advice that are fashionable, yet easily accessible, as I understand the hustle and bustle of college life and the crazy schedule that comes along with it. Take a look at my column each week, connect with me and let me know what you like and what you want to see more of!
