My name is Courtney Pelot and I am a sophomore here at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. I am extremely excited to be a Style Guru this semester! I can’t wait to report on hot trends and street style for the FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT section. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, lucky enough to grow up along the shores of Lake Michigan. With my high school perched on a hill right next to the lake, I always found myself staring out at the sparkling waves during class. I love that I have the lovely Lake Mendota here in Madison to admire as I walk to class.
I have known I’ve wanted to work in the fashion industry since I picked up my first Teen Vogue—the August 2007 issue. As I flipped through the magazine on my grandfather’s boat, instead of paying attention to the Fourth of the July fireworks, I was hooked on the way the outfits were put together. Because of my interests in fashion and creating things, I am majoring in Textile and Apparel Design. Someday, I hope to work at a fashion magazine. My ultimate dream is to be editor-in-chief of a great magazine. I can’t wait to see all the steps I will take and outstanding people I will meet on the way to this goal.
I absolutely love fashion and personal style because no two people have the same take on things. Style is all about expression and creativity, the possibilities are truly endless. While hunting out street style this semester, I look forward to seeing how students capture their own personalities into their daily fashion choices. I love to mix it up, but my basic fall uniform consists of comfy, cozy items. When in doubt, I choose my American Apparel winter leggings or a dark wash skinny jean. I’m all about an oversize sweater or chic blazer for the cool days of autumn. I’m excited to wear my new oxblood combat boots I picked up on a recent shopping trip. For accessories, my weakness definitely is handbags. A girl can never have too many purses, right?
I could not be more excited about this semester! I can’t wait to see the trends the students of UW-Madison will be rocking this fall. Bring your A-game Fashionistas and Fashionistos—I’ll be watching, probably with a pumpkin spice latte in hand.
