STYLE GURU BIO: Becca Shenefield

Hey there everyone! My name is Becca Shenefield, and I am a junior at Columbia College Chicago majoring in public relations and minoring in fashion business. I just recently moved to the city in September from a small town in Indiana. I grew up in a town where farming was the norm and fashion was a foreign concept.

Even at an early age, I identified as a Fashionista. I spent my free time as a child designing new looks in my sketchbook and going through my closet for hours upon hours mixing and matching. Though, I never had enough Barbie dolls to style or costumes to model down my hallway.

When I was old enough to start school, I remember being the first of my friends to wear makeup and experiment with accessories. I even began to set trends by making my own necklaces and bracelets that my peers couldn’t get enough of.

Even though I was a trendsetter within my friend group, I still could not ignore the fact that my style was far more mature than those around me. I was that sixth grader walking in four-inch heels while the rest of my friends were sporting flip flops.

I became obsessed with fashion. My closet expanded to the point where I had enough clothes to go months without repeating an outfit. I plastered posters of models up in my bedroom and subscribed to every fashion magazine I could get my hands on. The obvious next step for me was to obtain a job in retail so I could get paid to surround myself with clothes.

Ever since I landed my first job in retail, I knew that I had to find a career where I could combine my love for fashion with my love for people. My post graduation goal is to eventually work as a public relations manager for a major fashion house in New York City.

My style is feminine and classic. I love sporting neutral colors with statement makeup or shoes. Sweaters are my favorite staple items, and the one I’m wearing from New York & Company is a go-to piece when the temperatures drop. It’s easy to pair with dark jeggings and booties for a casual, winter ensemble. Add a smoky eye and your favorite bag, and you are sure to turn some heads.
