STYLE GURU BIO: Barbara Letizia

Welcome Fashionista/os! I am Barbara, also known as Babs or Barbs, and I grew up in the suburbs just outside of Manhattan. I am a freshman at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). It is my dream come true to be attending this amazing school and doing what I love. I am a fashion design major and I am excited to share my latest styles with all of you.

My love for fashion started when I learned to sew at five years old. I heard about FIT when I was in middle school and desperately wanted to visit, so for my 13th birthday, my mom and I took a trip to the city and I fell in love with the school. I knew this is where I wanted to be, I mean what middle schooler wants to visit a college on their birthday? I took a pre-college class at FIT, and since then I never thought of going anywhere else. Although I will miss the cute town I live in, I am ecstatic to be in the Garment District and finding new inspirations.

Everybody’s street style in New York is unique and that is so inspiring to me. There is always something that catches my eye whether it’s a building, a window display, someone’s outfit or even the street vendor carts. I cannot wait to write about trends that I obsess over in the upcoming months.

My personal style is chic with a little edge. I love wearing neutrals that give my outfit a polished look, but I also like wearing distressed jeans, leggings and faux fur. I have a weakness for anything light pink, but I often reach for the go-to black and white ensemble.

I paired this mauve corduroy mini skirt which I can dress up or dress down with this wrap top: a classic piece that can go from day to night. Effortless and versitile is what I swear by for my essentials. My wedges are comforable and give this outfit more edge, along with my handmade choker and the briefcase-styled handbag. Getting up so early in the morning and having a busy schedule does not give me a lot of time to put an outfit together, so I always reach for statement pieces and basics that can go with anything!
