STYLE GURU BIO: Anna Gavalick

Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Anna and I am so excited to be a Style Guru for a second semester! My first semester as a Style Guru was so fun and innovative that I couldn’t wait to continue this experience. To reintroduce myself, I am a sophomore retail merchandising major at Bradley University.

For as long as I could remember, I have always loved getting dressed up and trying out new styles. By the time I was in middle school, I was already obsessed with fashion magazines like Seventeen and Teen Vogue. Today, I obsess over the latest issues of Glamour and Vogue. I love digging into fashion magazines and gazing at the beautiful styled shoots. It’s so easy for me to envision myself on set styling the glamorous models or being behind the computer screen writing about the latest trends in fashion.

Being a Style Guru allows me to get a taste of what that life is like by styling outfits, noticing fashionable students and writing about fashion. Finding trendy students on campus and capturing their unique style has become second nature to me.

When I am asked to define my style, I usually take a moment to decide on the right words to describe it. My style is constantly evolving. I love playing around with new trends and creating outfits that express my mood, whether it’s for class or a night out with friends. One way to describe my style is classic with a twist. I tend to go for neutral colors like a black sweater paired with light wash distressed boyfriend jeans and tan suede ankle booties. I’ll put a twist on an outfit by adding a colorful statement necklace or eye-catching shoes. I am always open to take fashion risks like wearing a long sleeved velvet crop top with a pair of high-waisted light wash vintage jeans. Not only does my style evolve with new fashion trends, but also with the seasons.

Living in the Midwest, I have the opportunity to play around with fashions for all four seasons. This winter, I’ll be bundled up in layers. Here, I went for the preppy look with a button-down flannel and a red cable knit sweater paired perfectly with a gold chain statement necklace and quilted cream puffy vest. This look keeps me warm while walking to class or hanging out at a local coffee shop.

After the holiday break, I cannot wait to get back to searching Bradley’s campus for stylish Fashionistas. I look forward to showing you what the semester brings me!
