Last week I wrote on how sometimes “less is more.” This week I’ve decided, “more is more.” If done right, fashion in excess can be extremely stylish. Mixing prints or fabrics and adding lots of accessories can make an outfit interesting. Many times people forget that fashion is supposed to be fun! It’s a form of self-expression. One day if you feel like wearing a simple ensemble and then the next you feel like wearing an outlandish outfit, you should go for it! I believe the best part about clothing is being able to create personas. Kate Spade once said, “Playing dress-up begins at age five and never truly ends.” Look at each outfit you put on as your statement to the world about who you are and who you want to be.
This Fashionista’s outfit is anything but simple and I love it! She’s mixing patterns and fabrics. The velvet accents add texture and make her ensemble unique. Velvet has been popping up all over the runways. I’m so glad this fabric has revived itself from the ’90s. Velvet immediately adds a classy feel to any ensemble. The touch of velvet on this Fashionista’s blazer and her velvet headband draw attention up to her face. As Annie always says, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.”
This Fashionista completes her ensemble with a printed chiffon shirt, a thrifted plaid blazer, black shorts, a pair of purple booties and a gold chain necklace. These items seem like they should make the outfit look a little chaotic. There may be a lot going on, but she has done an amazing job of making the outfit cohesive.
This week I encourage you to add a little chaos to your wardrobe. Pile on the prints and just simply have fun with what you choose to wear!
