STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Tone It Down

We all have our favorite neutral classics in our closets, right? For me, it is a grey cable knit sweater, in the winter, and a soft, white, classic T-shirt, in the summer. The great thing about neutral toned pieces is that they go with everything! With a neutral top or bottom, you are free to have a little more fun with what you choose to pair with it- floral pants, a patterned shirt, a flashy accessory, the possibilities are endless. Adding a pop of color almost always seems necessary to brighten up the neutrals, but can it be possible to have a fun outfit completely composed of neutral tones? I would argue that it is most definitely possible.

I spotted this Fashionista wearing an outfit made up of neutrals that is certainly not boring. She tucks a navy sweater into a high-waisted tan skirt. Over her sweater, she wears a grey vest. She adds a long, black knit scarf for warmth and a gold watch for a little shine. My favorite portion of her ensemble are her argyle tights; they bring the whole outfit together in their alternation of neutral tones. Grey booties complete the entire look.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I am totally inspired to create my own entirely neutral outfit. It is all about layering and variety. If you’re feeling like hopping on the neutral bus, too, I suggest checking out some easy-to-layer pieces. Try layering this tan cropped sweater over this striped button-down shirt; you can easily wear this top combo with a basic pair of jeans. Want a more formal neutral ensemble? Check these fun tights out. They add some flare to any neutral dress or skirt!
