STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Not Your Average Layer

Winter is in full swing, so bundle up! Underneath all the jackets, scarves, hats, boots and earmuffs there is a person with style. But sometimes, with the cold weather, it is hard to show off anything except your extreme ability to look like a life-sized marshmallow walking to class.

So how do we show off our trendiest outfits in the most terrible of weather? Take some advice from this preppy Fashionista. Her look takes layering to a whole new level. Instead of building up her outfit with blanket scarves on top of jackets and other winter accessories, she keeps warm by layering underneath her pieces to make statements in a more unique and cozy way.

She starts her layering with a white button-down. It really complements the deep color palette of her outfit. The cuffs at the sleeves tie the sweater into her look nicely and really create a very put together and fashionable look.

This Fashionista continues her layering with a navy blue vest and a statement necklace. The vest is the only true outerwear in her look and really keeps in touch with her preppy style. The statement necklace also allows her to show off some of her own style and keeps the look from being too formal. Its brighter palette complements her button-down and the lighter tones in her shoes.

My favorite part of her layered look is actually her socks. This winter, socks have really made a statement with knee socks warming up dressier looks and adding pops of color or simple style to a pair of jeans and a sweater. This Fashionista switches it up by wearing her socks under jeans and then cuffing them just a bit to make an absolutely perfect statement. It is a fun and cute touch that brings the warm violet of her sweater down to her toes.

So, sometimes, warming up doesn’t mean bundling up! If you are sick of layering on jackets over vests and putting on scarves, hats and every winter accessory in between, take some advice from this Fashionista!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “When the cold weather comes, so do the button-downs and those other unexpected, underneath layers that really make for a trendy outfit. Try layering your looks in a different way so that you can show of your style while staying warm!”
