STYLE ADIVCE OF THE WEEK: Neutral Structure

Neutral jackets are seen on every block of the city. Whether they are camel, cream, navy or black, these squared, structured coats look great on all body types. With such a simple concept of solid base colors, they can be conveniently paired with other neutral pieces to create an elegant and polished look. Sometimes called a top coat or day coat, these jackets are usually made of wool and work perfectly with a number of layers underneath.

This Fashionista is a great example of a successful neutral top coat. Today she rocks a woolen, cream jacket that easily becomes the voice of the outfit. Paired with an oversized plaid scarf and skinny jeans, the coat complements her blonde locks and bright smile. Brown boots continue the neutral theme of the ensemble. Her red purse picks up some of the color in the print of the scarf as well as adds a necessary pop of color.

I really think I love this look so much because it can be translated into so many different styles and worn to so many different events. Jackets like these can be worn on the commute to the office throughout the week for a put together ensemble. When worn with dark accents, like leather pants and sky high black heels, the outfit instantly becomes a sexy going out look. Paired with a beanie and Vans, the look can transform into a hipster, laid back outfit for any day of the weekend.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style is definitely shaped by where I grew up by the beach. A lot of the clothes I wear, like loose-fitting tunics and flowing dresses, mimic that relaxed, summer vibe. I like to add structured pieces, like this jacket, to make my outfits more put together, while still maintaining that easy-going approach.”
