STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Sweater Weather

Style Advice of the Week

From past posts you can probably tell that I am a huge proponent of sweaters–I just can’t help it! During the cold seasons when it’s difficult to put together a trendy outfit, you can always count on a sweater to pull the look together. Major labels have taken to the trend themselves by sending sweater ensembles down the runway like this mix-and-match combo from the Oscar de la Renta 2011 Resort collection, or, more recently, like this leather and polka-dot number from Chanel’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection.

It’s easy to decide to not get dressed one day and instead lounge around in your old sweats from high school and a beat up T-shirt from that one concert you went to, but with a simple and comfortable look like this available there is no excuse. This Fashionista’s look is the epitome of comfy-chic and she is definitely an example to all. The chunky knit of her sweater allows for extra warmth, as does her infinity scarf, while her black pants are slimming and sleek. Instead of finishing the look with the classic (but slightly over-used) riding boots, she paired it with these fabulous Aztec print heeled booties.

To get a look similar to hers all you need to do is make like Macklemore and head over to your local thrift shop or raid your grandfather’s closet. Sweaters are available at most department stores and retail chains, but I have found that my best (and coziest) sweaters are the ones that have had some previous love.

Though it may be getting a bit warmer, you can still rock a sweater. A sweater dress in a solid, dark color is both figure-flattering and appropriate for the heavy material. To add an edgy flair to an otherwise classic look, slip your feet into a pair of neutral colored socks and then into these flatform ankle boots from ASOS. The Aztec print is similar to our Fashionista’s booties, but the colors are a bit more feminine. Toss your school supplies into a nude bag and slip on your favorite pair of stunner shades and you’re ready to take on the day.
