We’re definitely in the thrust of winter Oregonians, and you know what that means. It’s time to break out the parkas! While an everyday jacket will suffice on cooler days, a heavier parka is an awesome way to fight the winter chill on these freezing rainy days. In the past, traditional parkas have been known to be bulky and frankly passé, but these days, a slew of designers and labels produce tons of options that are both practical and stylish. This week’s Fashionista shows off a great example of a chic winter parka.
Parkas and anoraks are great items that will stretch a long way in a student’s closet. For lighter rainy days, they look great thrown over a fun tee and battered boots for a grungy, cool ensemble. When it’s unbearably cold, you can wear it zipped up with a ton of layers underneath. The possibilities for outfit options are limitless and will transition wonderfully between the colder seasons of the year. Any Oregonian absolutely needs a parka in their wardrobe. I found this week’s student wearing a great olive drab, military-inspired parka. Complete with a hood and thick lining, the jacket is both warm and totally stylish. She finished the look with black leggings and studded brown motorcycle boots.
The key to finding your perfect parka or anorak is to know what flatters you best. Most overly puffy parkas tend to overwhelm any body type and leave even the curviest girls shapeless. Look for a coat that cinches around the waist, like this wool option from Laundry by Shelli Segal. A parka with a lining like this sherpa-lined hooded coat from Urban Outfitters is a necessity in the middle of winter. If you’re in a snowy part of the country and require a padded parka, this insulated option from ASOS is the perfect winter must-have.
Fashionistas, unfortunately we have the coldest weeks of winter left to bear. But don’t get burned out on the weather or your wardrobe. Incorporate a cute and flattering parka into your rotation and you’ll be warm and stylish!
