Summer music festivals are the mecca of entertainment for music lovers and partygoers. A fortnight ago, I finally save up enough funds for a ticket and I lost my festival V-plates to Future Music Festival. I can happily say that it was a day filled with rad acts, good vibes and great mates, and one that I’ll remember for years to come. It was a magical moment when I was thrown up onto my friend’s shoulders to sing along to Fun’s performance of Some Nights!
I’m here to help as you plan your festival big-day-out and toss around outfit ideas. After my exposure to Future, I find there definitely are some What To Wear tips that I can pass along to make your festival experience a much more comfortable one! Luckily, this week’s Fashionista embodied them all.
My first tip is to dress for the weather. Most festivals take place in the summer, and by a twist of fate, happen to occur on a stinking hot day. Add the weather to the thousands of people you’ll be sharing a space with, which makes for a pretty sweaty experience. So dress lightly and dress comfortably. Trust me, you’ll regret wearing a complicated outfit, when you’re sandwiched in a crowd, that needs constant adjusting. Think simple pieces that make a statement, like this Fashionista’s laid-back tank top. I loved how the look-at-me sunflower on the front gave her outfit a Coachella-inspired vibe. A pair of high-waisted shorts are a festival must-have because not only are they comfortable, but they’re great for dancing.
Although not every music festival has one, Future had an amazing foam pit, where festivalgoers went for a boogie in the bubbles. It was a great way to cool off, yet if you wear a pair of sneakers or boots–I did–prepare to trudge around with wet feet for the rest of the day. I’ll opt for a pair of sandals, like this Fashionista, next time. If they get wet, I know they will dry quickly. Sandals are great for keeping you cool on a hot festival day, and you’ll be able to dance in them until the night’s last set’s finale.
Of course, your festival outfit won’t be complete without a pair of sunglasses! No one wants to squint at the stage, so make sure you pack a pair. I loved this Fashionista’s retro round frames!
One Simple Change: Fashion rules generally go out the window at festivals, so why not get a little crazy with your look? Give your locks a punch of colour with some hair chalk, or wear a flower crown or garland in your hair for a more whimsical effect. You will definitely fit in at a festival with these tips, too!
