There are so many opportunities in the workforce for people with all kinds of talents and skills. This month, we chatted with three rockstars at NYLON with varying jobs to learn a little more about what makes them tick.
Name: Lisa Mischianti
Position: Associate Features Director
What does your job entail at Nylon? The features department is responsible for all of the words in the magazine. So, my job involves everything from brainstorming/researching ideas for stories to writing and editing them. I personally oversee a lot of fashion copy and often the big culture feature in each issue (our all-American snack food story, whiskey field guide, and psychic school feature were especially fun to put together). Just recently, I wrote our cover story on Dakota Fanning and visited some quirky alternative spots in Las Vegas for a travel feature in our May issue.
I always look forward to…my nightly cult classic movie. Every evening when I get home I like to watch an old flick that I’ve never seen before (sometimes it might take me a few sittings to finish one, but that’s the beauty of Netflix: no return date). I organize my queue by decade—I’m almost done with the ’90s.
I can’t go a day without…misplacing my purple editing pen. I’ve been using the same one for years, and everyone knows I can’t edit without it! It has a habit of going missing, but always finds its way back to me.
I don’t think I will ever…tire of my go-to uniform: black skirt, vintage/thrifted tee, ankle-height socks, chunky black shoes.
Name: Yasmeen Gharnit
Position: Digital Editorial Assistant & Social Media Manager
What does your job entail at Nylon? I write and edit a variety of content for NYLON.com. I also manage and update all of the magazine’s social media accounts.
I always look forward to…finding a super-talented undiscovered musician, designer, artist or app.
I can’t go a day without…an iced Americano. Sad, but true.
Name: Marissa Smith
Position: Market Editor
What does your job entail at Nylon? I’m in charge of pulling RTW from the contemporary market for women’s, and in charge of all men’s RTW and accessories. I work on all of our Front of Book trend pages that are still photographed. I also help curate and develop the fashion posts on Nylon.com.
I always look forward to…going on market appointments and seeing the new trends for the season.
I can’t go a day without...a Coca-Cola or two..
