AROUND TOWN: Sisi Lee

Most little girls with a love for playing dress-up had big dreams of being a fashion designer. Unfortunately, a lot of us were told to grow out of that and focus on real world jobs, or whatever that means. However, this Fashionista kept her love for fashion alive and has even decided to pursue it! Regardless of what others may say about the fashion industry being too competitive, Sisi Lee has the support of her mom to keep her going.

Name: Sisi Lee

Role: Student Designer

CollegeFashionista: Who or what inspired you to go into the fashion industry?

Sisi Lee: I’ve always liked dressing up and fashion ever since I was a little girl. But I would say my mom was a huge inspiration growing up because she’s also really into clothing and fashion. When I was a kid, watching her routinely getting ready every morning was almost magical because she would always end up looking amazing head to toe.

CF: What impact do you want to have on the industry and what do you hope to achieve?

SL: What I hope to contribute to the fashion industry is to showcase lesser-known designers to the mass market because your everyday person typically does not seek out these lesser known designers, who create these really awesome pieces. So if you have someone doing the work for you and bringing them to major mass-market retailers, it’s a win-win reciprocal relationship for everyone.

CF: Describe your signature style or look?

SL: Some key pieces in my wardrobe would be a pair of big chunky platforms, black high-waisted jeans and an oversized coat or jacket. My favorite accessory at the moment is my black felt boater hat. I love collecting eclectic pieces that normal people typically don’t have.

Learn More: Sisi Lee will be transferring over to Cal State Long Beach to focus on her fashion merchandising career. She hopes to get a job as a fashion buyer or a stylist, so don’t be surprised if you recognize her eclectic style appear on celebrities!
