STYLE GURU STYLE: Ready-To-Wear

When it comes to fashion, there is nothing I love more than simplicity. Of course, that’s not to say I don’t appreciate an intricately detailed outfit when I see one. But when it comes to getting dressed in my freezing apartment come 8:00 a.m., I’d rather put my efforts toward warmth and punctuality than a complicated ensemble.

Though a simple outfit may seem nice in theory, maintaining Fashionista status in an outfit made of basics can prove quite a challenge. Thankfully, Adam Lippes’ pre-fall collection is the perfect inspiration for mixing style with ease. Composed entirely of solid-colored pieces, the collection was made to mix and match to your heart’s desire. The predominantly black and white color scheme of the sleek, tailored clothing gave the collection an elegant and traditional feel, while the occasional pop of a bright color kept it fun and modern. And, as always, the small details are what made the collection; belted waists, fluffy pockets and backs made of netting provided a subtle twist to the otherwise simple clothing.

For my outfit, I kept the theme of simplicity by choosing the most basic and classic items in my closet. My black blazer and black culottes brought out both the relaxed and structural elements from Lippes’ collection, while my blue top added a much needed pop of color. My accessories—a black belt and nude pumps—were reminiscent of Lippes’ collection in that you barely notice them at all. By taking inspiration from Lippes’ pre-fall collection, you can create an outfit that is as stylish as it is easy. In an outfit like this, you can impress your boss (or professor) not only with style, but punctuality too.

Get My Look: 1. A black blazer. 2. A simple top. 3. Black culottes.
