STYLE GURU STYLE: Lace And Leather

With the coming and going of Fashion Week, I am so looking forward to the amazing trends that are going to pop up in the next few weeks. In the fall 2015 ready-to-wear McQ by Alexander McQueen collection, moto-chic met cozy knits and metallic motifs. The collection mixed sheer chiffon with studs and metal accents, emphasizing the contrast between the pieces. From knit sweaters to leather jackets, I was beyond excited by this collection of mostly all-black looks, and obviously couldn’t wait to try it for myself.

In the second look from the collection, a cream-colored knit sweater with metallic silver accents is shown off over a high-low sheer skirt. To recreate the look for myself, I matched a color-blocked sweater borrowed from my roommates closet and a tulle, high-low skirt of my own. The pattern of the chiffon on the skirt contrasted perfectly with the knit of the sweater, blending to create a great winter look. This collection taught me that mixing motifs is not as hard as it looks, as long as you keep it simple.

I internalized this look and put my own spin on it by pairing the skirt and sweater with minimalistic accessories. The collection on the whole did not feature many accessories, but when it did, they were stand-out accent pieces to contrast softness elsewhere in the look. Whether it be buckles on boots or studded belts, the looks were all about metals. Going off of this notion, I used black and gold leather accessories as added texture to complete my look.
