No matter which season, there is always one shade that is a staple in any wardrobe: black. Black seems to always be complementary and simple, yet colorful in the way that it expresses itself. It can range from a classy blouse to a dark, gothic sweater. Whether I am going for a sophisticated or feminine look, I can count on black for a great outfit.
Taking inspiration from the Alexander Wang fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I combined different textures and shades of black to give off a punk and chic look. I paired my outfit with a thick black velvet choker, which Wang uses in his collection to tie together several looks. Specifically, one of Wang’s looks features a sheer, lace top with a choker and black leather skirt to match. Making Wang’s look my own, I paired my outfit with a gold hardware belt to reflect an edgy, yet rustic tone.
Besides my belt, my outfit also includes a Nasty Gal lace bodysuit underneath black leather pants. Also adding to the look’s edgy tone is a black harness, which is attached to my solid black bralette. I am wearing lace-up, velvet and leather wedges that have gold embellishments like my belt. My last flash of gold belongs to my necklace, which is both dainty and feminine.
Though the outfit is just one shade, the many fabrics that are mixed together create a dynamic look. As for the shade itself, black is associated with power and elegance. From Kim Kardashian to David Beckham, black is worn by a range of people as a shade that gives a statement.
Regardless of the season, anyone can look to black for an outfit that everyone will admire. As Wang himself once said, “Anyone can get dressed up and glamorous, but it is how people dress in their days off that are the most intriguing.” And on those days off, choose black because it won’t let you down.
