STYLE GURU BIO: Shannon Oteri

Welcome to my little cyber-slice of CollegeFashionista, thanks for stopping by! My name is Shannon Oteri and this semester I am a Style Guru for the University of Delaware. I am an 18-year-old girl, who is usually giggling and always ready to make new friends or to learn new things. I am a creativity-fueled person, inspired by words, images and colors. Looking through a lens is my passion; I am head over heels for photography. It makes my heart do that pitter-patter thing you read about in cheesy romance novels. If you are interested, follow my journey through little squares (Instagram: @oteris) or flip through my online portfolio at www.shannonoteri.com

As an incoming freshman, I have already begun dipping my toes into the waters of the fashion industry. From sewing and selling fabric pouches in the third grade to creating duct tape jewelry for my classmates in the seventh grade to starting a fashion YouTube channel in the eighth grade and co-founding a small, thrift up-cycling clothing line (@mendedthreads) in the eleventh grade, I can confidently say that I have a bit of a passion towards fashion. Over the past four years, I have also worked full-time at a women’s clothing boutique in my hometown (*correction: the cutest women’s clothing boutique in my hometown) and this past summer I managed and photographed for the store’s Instagram!  Meanwhile, I am also a fashion stylist and photographer for The Ocean City Magazine, a monthly magazine publication that circulates throughout my town.

By keeping an open mind and being blessed with the world’s most supportive set of parents, my past experiences have significantly helped to mold my future aspirations! I am thankful to have been a part of the Drexel University Fashion Design Summer Program in 2015, where I had the opportunity to learn about the fashion design industry and create a capsule collection. In addition, this past summer I was beyond lucky to be apart of the WCC360 Seventeen Fashion Experience Program in New York City with Seventeen magazine, where I met and learned from the movers and shakers of both Hearst Inc. and Seventeen magazine, as well as the top CEO’s of the fashion industry. During these real-life opportunities, I have also collaborated and networked with about seventy other fashion-intrigued individuals from around the globe who are just like you and I.

As far as my style goes, I don’t necessarily have a definitive style, so you can expect something fresh each month. My current go-to’s are the color blue, anything denim and my Vonzipper sunglasses. For the most part, I draw fashion inspiration from photos either online or in a magazine and I enjoy mixing patterns.

Along the way, I have picked up a few tips, trends and skills and I am looking forward to sharing with all of you. Follow my page to see what I will be writing about each month and until then, check out my social media to see what I am up to while offline.
