Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Mara Hill and I am beyond thrilled to be returning as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru for another semester. I’m a senior at Northern Arizona University where I’m currently preparing to graduate with a degree in Merchandising and a double minor in Journalism and Public Relations.
Growing up, I’ve always been known as “the creative one.” Since my days as a little girl, I’ve spent most of my free time incorporating style and flair into every available aspect of my life. I have a passion for all things artistic, from photography and painting to sketching and writing. While I do have an obsession with clothes (and shoes and jewelry…), my love for fashion can be attributed to something far greater than your typical shopping addiction. Fashion is a way to present yourself to the world without even having to open your mouth. It’s a direct representation of who you are as an individual that can change drastically with just the switch of an outfit.
My personal style has always been extremely feminine. Dresses, heels, skirts and tights are all staples in my wardrobe, notably in bold colors and statement prints. I’m not your average “jeans and a T-shirt” type of girl, as I’d much more prefer to be strutting my stuff in a bold leopard blouse and show-stopping sequin shorts. As a clean cut free spirit, I’d like to think that my wardrobe acts as a modern combination of old Hollywood glamour and eclectic elegance. I try to reinvent my look every season while still staying true to my girlish and classic roots, which include a lot of rhinestones and Audrey-esque sunglasses. After all, life is too short to wear boring clothes.
This season, as I enter my last semester as a college student and prepare to establish myself as a real adult, I am so excited to showcase the stylish Lumberjacks on NAU’s gorgeous campus. Though we reside in a very relaxed and understated mountain town, there is no shortage of truly original Fashionistas/os in Flagstaff. Cheers to a wonderful spring semester and a fashionable new year!
