Hello there Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Lauren O’Brien and I am currently a senior going into my final semester as an undergraduate student at Western Connecticut State University. I will be graduating with a degree in Communications, and a minor in Psychology. Although my degree may be in communications, my goal is to pursue a career in public relations or event planning in the world of cosmetics and fashion. With that said, there is no doubt I have an enormous love for fashion and absolutely adore the word accessorize. Make-up and hair is also another love of mine as I am currently a licensed cosmetologist as well, and can’t wait to assist you in all your beautiful endeavors. Fashion is self-expression, a lifestyle and an outlet for creativity all wrapped into one.
Spring 2014 will be the beginning of my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. Each week I will happily be contributing to CollegeFashionista’s Monday STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column. As the first CollegeFashionista Style Guru from Western Connecticut State University, I am ecstatic and cannot wait to get the semester going to share the Fashionistas and Fashioniastos on campus!
As I begin to pack and head back to school for my final semester of college, and making those last minute impromptu shopping trips I start to wonder what fashion trends will be IN this spring and what styles will be just another “remember when you wore” conversation starter. Attending Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT has its perks, like being able to experience the typical New England weather. Every Fashionista in the western Connecticut area are able to wear their favorite pair of boots in the beginning of the semester and end in classic peep toe pumps and strappy sandals. This means some staple items that can be found in my wardrobe other then your little black dress an assortment of cropped blazers, are typically a North Face Jacket, a rain coat and boots, a classic denim top paired with leggings and comfy riding boots, along with plenty of scarves to accessorize. If there is one thing I love about fashion it is the endless possibilities to be able to accessorize, very rarely will you ever see me with out a watch or dangle bracelets on my wrists, silky scarfs on my neck and sparkling studs in my ears! In the words of world-renowned “fashion maniac” Anna Dello Russo, “‘Accessories are like vitamins to fashion – as such you should use them liberally.”
While at school, whether it be spending my time in classes with a tumbler filled of flavored ice coffee, catching up with my sorority sisters at lunch, working the desk at the school gym reading the latest e-read from my laptop, planning an event for my residence hall or attending weekly student government meetings, you can definitely call me a “busy bee.” I look forward to creating my posts for CollegeFashionista, and I hope you will enjoy reading them as well! Good Luck this semester, and don’t let anyone dull your sparkle!
