STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bold and the Colorful

I have got to hand it to the guys on campus. They have really been stepping it up with their style this semester—especially this Fashionisto.

In a wintery sea of gray and black, I had no trouble catching a glimpse of this Fashionisto dressed in a blue and red flannel shirt, red Vans sneakers and a bright multi-colored backpack. They say the way you dress is how you market yourself, and I think he dressed himself as someone bold, cool and friendly—someone you get the urge to talk to.

Although many winter styles naturally gravitate towards dull and dark neutrals as the misery index increases and weather gets colder, this Fashionisto proved that wearing colors can create some much-needed brightness during these dreaded winter days. After all, there is an entire color spectrum and its infinite glory that deserves to be taken advantage of.

I caught this Fashionisto on a warmer day, as he was just wearing his lightweight flannel shirt as a mock jacket, but his garb can easily be imitated and converted into one appropriate for those colder days. Just throw on a brightly-colored down jacket over a neutral V-neck sweater and slim fit pants and viola, you will have a bright, stylish and functional outfit!

I know a lot of people who prefer to dress on the safer side, but a great thing about fashion is that a lot of the time it is about not about what you wear, but how you wear it. I hope that this Fashionisto will help some people dissipate the desire to dress safe in neutrals and start encouraging people to color these winter months with bright fashions.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t be afraid of color!”
