5 Layered Outfits To Try When the Weather is Unpredictable

Layering For Spring

The weather is (sort of) warming up and I couldn’t be more excited to shed my heavy winter coat. Yet sometimes dressing for spring can be intimidating after a long winter of blacks, grays, and navys, and it’s still a little too early to shed all of those layers with the weather being 60 degrees one day and 35 the next. Florals for spring can feel tired (cue Meryl Streep à la The Devil Wears Prada), but I do love gradually incorporating some pastels, fun colors, and pops of white into my every day looks. So, regardless of whatever the weather decides to throw at you this season, here are five layered outfits that welcome the warm weather but keep things versatile. Layering For Spring With a Jumpsuit

Play Around With Pastels

Nothing says spring like pastels. Try some coveralls that you can wear again and again, and layer with a bright yellow track jacket. A customizable cotton candy bag and graffiti plimsolls tie the look together, and if the sun does come out, these pearly sunglasses will keep you looking cool.

Get this look: Madewell x as ever™ Short Sleeve Coveralls ($175); Adidas SST Track Jacket ($75); Pop & Suki Camera Bag ($195); Zara Graffiti Plimsolls ($50); Poppy Lissiman Barbara Sunglasses ($100)

Layering For Spring With Rain Gear

Invest in Water-Repellant Wear

Spring means rain, and rain means accessorizing with umbrellas. Try one with fun red stripes that balances a classic plaid water-repellant jacket. A plain white T-shirt and bleach cropped jeans keep things simple, and red leather ankle boots mean you can afford to splash in a few puddles.

Get this look: Barbour Stripe Bubble Umbrella ($59); Zara Checked Safari Jacket ($70); Topshop MOTO Bleach Cropped Wide Leg Jeans ($75); Gap Short Sleeve Crewneck T-Shirt ($25); Zara Block Heel Leather Ankle Boots ($60)

Layering for Spring With PinkEase Out of Dark Colors With Pink

If you’re hesitant to give up those dark winter layers, a translucent raincoat can make things easier. Keep things sleek in black jeans and a detailed black crossbody, and toughen up the look with a band sweatshirt and rocker rain boots.

Get this look: bando Rainy Days Jacket ($42); Reformation Stretch Flood Jean ($118); Zara Round City Bag With Slogan ($50); Mango AC/DC Sweatshirt ($60); Rebecca Minkoff Quincy Rain Boot ($150).

Layering For Spring For an Interview

Make a (Bright) Impact in an Interview

Besides rain, flowers, and exams, spring also means interviews. A structured blue coat makes an eye-catching statement, and a classic white button-up keeps things professional. Show off a bit of personality with pink trousers and eyelet lace sneakers, and top off the look with chic gold earrings.

Get this look: Mango Checked Structured Coat ($199); J.Crew Slim Perfect Shirt ($70); Zara Trousers With Belt ($50); LOFT Eyelet Lace Sneakers ($70); Merewif Hook Poke Earrings ($75)

Layering for Spring When It's Cold

Work with Layers During Dicey Weather

Some spring days start off cold, and end up with you peeling off every single layer you put on. Be prepared and sporty chic with a classic striped rugby shirt and a mustard sweatshirt. Adidas track pants keep you comfy and cool (in both senses of the word). Add some bright pops of white with sneakers and a faux leather backpack.

Get this look: J.Crew Rugby Shirt ($60); Zara Striped Jacquard Sweatshirt ($36); Adidas SST Track Pants ($65); PUMA Vikky Platform Sneaker ($60); Mossimo Supply Co. Faux Leather Mini Backpack ($20)
