The title of Jessie Artigue’s blog, Style and Pepper, sums up two important things about her—she has great personal style and whips up delicious recipes. But her blog delivers so much more then the typical street style photos and recipes. Jessie is a professional stylist, trend reporter, trained journalist and healthy life style guru. She shares all these facets of her life and more on her blog. We caught up with Jessie as she discussed blogging, style and, one of our personal favorites, frozen yogurt!
CollegeFashionista: What inspired you to start your blog?
Jessie Artigue: I started S&P in June 2009 as a personal style blog meant to challenge myself creatively and as a way to begin to dip my toe in the fashion industry. It began as a simple street style blog (featuring only other people), and has turned into a personal lifestyle site where I share my adventures as a style expert in NYC.
CF: The best part of being a blogger is…
JA: …that no two days (or sometimes even hours!) are different. I love the flexibility of my schedule, and though I would never claim to know what life will bring my way next, I have a hard time imagining ever being 100 percent full time at a corporate office again.
CF: I never leave the house without my…
JA: iPhone, a water bottle, chocolate chip mint gum and my watch/stacks of rings (I even wear them when I run!).
CF: What is your guilty pleasure?
JA: Frozen yogurt!
CF: What are three items in your closet you couldn’t live without?
CF: What do you like to do in your free time?
JA: I love to exercise, frequent my favorite thrift stores and entertain friends in our home.
CF: Is there a purchase you’re dying to make at the moment?
JA: If money were no object, I’d snatch up the Givenchy tri-color Antigona handbag… Definitely going to have to keep dreaming on that one.
CF: What is your secret styling tip?
JA: My secret styling tip is always try to add one item or trend to your outfit that is unexpected, but totally you.
CF: Describe your personal style in one word.
CF: What is the coolest project you’ve worked on as a result of your blog?
JA: Last year, I was the spokesperson for a 6-week 12-city media tour for Harper’s BAZAAR, and had an amazing time hosting on-air style segments on each of the local news channels.
CF: Finish this sentence: You’ll always find me wearing…
CF: What is one thing you will never wear?
JA: Cap sleeves—they make me look like I have the shoulders of a line-backer!
CF: What is the most challenging part about maintaining your blog?
JA: For me, it is keeping current with my responses to client inquiries and staying up with all of my organizational nitty-gritty. I hired an amazing (life-saving!) part-time assistant last summer, but I dread the day she moves on and I’m stuck doing layout design/research/details again. I like to think big picture!
