I like to move around when I study. Peculiar I know, but I feel as though if I’m constantly circulating from one place to another, my ideas and creativity will follow suit. I found myself in the atrium of Rockwell Hall, the Mecca of fashion at Kent State University, over looking the hill and tree-covered landscape of front campus. I love it there, and although I’m only a second year student, it already feels like home. After completing a journalism assignment, I owed it to myself to take a break. So, style searching on the web I went. Fashion enthusiasts, you must click on this link. It contains the street style photographs of the chicest women in the world: the ladies at New York Fashion Week. I couldn’t help but think how lucky I am to be at a university where students actually dress like they’re in line waiting for the doors to open at the Donna Karan show. It’s inspiring. It keeps ideas and creativity flowing.
Name: Emily Chumbler
Major: Fashion Merchandising
CollegeFashionista: Tell me a little bit about what you’re wearing!
Emily Chumbler: My skirt, as well as my shoes, is from ASOS — like most of my clothes! My coat is my roommate’s. I love sharing clothes! I’m pretty sure that this velvet T-shirt is a thrift store find.
CF: Where or who do you get your style inspirations from?
EC: I don’t really have a style icon. There isn’t a person who I see and say ‘I want that.’ I get all of my inspiration from things like movies, music and art.
CF: What’s your favorite garment that you own?
EC: Hmm… that’s a hard one. I really like this skirt I’m wearing. I have a lot more like it. I love the length of it.
CF: Describe your personal style.
EC: I don’t think that I have a signature look! I mean I have a preference to what garments I do and don’t like, but not a set look. I have a new inspiration everyday. I love change. My hair doesn’t stay the same for more than a month!
CF: What are your plans for after graduation?
EC: I’m still trying to figure that out. I find myself not as ‘in’ to the fashion part as I thought I would be. I want to go into the business side of things. I’m a marketing minor and I’m going for my MBA. Eventually, I want to start my own business.
How To: Want to come back (to class) in black? It’s not impossible Fashionistas! First, get a pair of black tights, because frostbite is not an option. Then get a black midi skirt and black patterned top. Throw on a pair of ankle boots and top it off with an oversized boyfriend coat. Voila! You are ready to give the chic gals of New York Fashion Week a run for their money.
