The TSA-Approved Skincare Products I Never Board a Plane Without

Best Travel Beauty Essentials

If you’re currently preparing for your summer travels, you might be thinking about the collection of cosmetics you need to get through TSA. Strict airport guidelines make it increasingly difficult to pack even the most basic of products, let alone to bring your entire skin care routine along with you. Let’s be real, there is nothing worse than having to toss your favorite face wash or toner when you get to security. To prevent such disastrous events, I have collected a few of my favorite skincare items that are sure to both make it through TSA and combat the effects of that notoriously dry cabin air. Now pack your bags and get goin’—adventure and beautiful skin awaits!

When You Need a Mid-Flight Refresh

The Product: Mario Badescu Travel Size Facial Spray with Aloe, Herb and Rosewater

Cost: $5

This refreshing and hydrating facial mist makes the perfect pick me up for when those long flights are starting to take a toll on your skin. It is infused with natural extracts and rosewater—something which Allure calls an effective toner for the skin. Apply directly to the face or mix it with lotion for optimal moisturization. Plus, it can be used to set makeup! The 2 fl. oz. bottle will pose no threat to TSA.

Why I Love It: I am always looking to optimize freshness, especially during long flights. A quick spritz of rosewater spray manages to make me feel 100 times better by cooling my skin down and visibly reducing oil. Plus, it smells nice and you look luxurious applying it!

To Add Serious Moisture to Parched Skin

The Product: Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

Cost: $17

Clinique’s dermatologist-tested lotion works hydration-wonders! It softens and smooths while leaving your skin with that healthy, natural glow we all want while traveling. Allure calls it a miracle formula for its silky, lightweight, and fragrance-free properties. Not only that, but it will leave your skin feeling moisturized all day. And don’t worry, it comes in three different sizes (1.7 ml being the most TSA-friendly).

Why I Love It: I love using this as my all-day moisturizer. I make sure to apply it after washing my face in the morning. It absorbs into my skin instantly without leaving any icky residue, making it easy to wear underneath makeup without feeling (or looking) cakey.

For Protection From the Sun

The Product: Glossier Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen

Cost: $25

Wherever you are jetting off to, whether it be warm or cold, sunscreen is always a necessity. Be sure to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays with Glossier’s sunscreen, which Glamour explains is filled with antioxidants, vitamins, and UVA/UVB filters. Its dainty size makes it easy to throw in a purse, beach bag, or carry-on. Keep your face protected whenever you plan on venturing outdoors—your future self will thank you for years to come.

Why I Love It: For me, there is nothing worse than coating your face and body with heavy, greasy sun protection that leaves that chalky, white residue. I loathed that uncomfortable feeling until I tried Glossier’s sunscreen! Unlike most, this product absorbs directly into my skin thanks to its unique water-gel formula.

If You’re in Need of a Glow

The Product: Fresh FreshFace Instant Glow Luminizer

Cost: $38

Made for normal, oily, combination, dry, and/or sensitive skin, this lightweight luminizer provides an instant glow. It can be worn by itself, with under foundation, or as a highlighter—whatever you prefer. Glamour explains how ingredients like meadowfoam seed oil and vitamin C work to moisturize and radiate the skin. It provides a rich, dewy glow, giving you that perfect “no-makeup” vacation look.

Why I Love It: When I am not looking as tan as I would like to be, or when I don’t feel like putting on an entire face of makeup, I love popping on a little bit of this luminizer. It gives a nice subtle glow while also moisturizing my skin, which is just what I need when my skin is looking a little dull or dry. Again, it makes my list because it’s not greasy at all. Major key.

For a Major Pick-Me-Up

The Product: Ole Henriksen Truth Serum

Cost: $52

The Ole Henriksen Truth Serum comes in three TSA-approved sizes: 1.7 oz, 1 oz, and 0.5 oz. Byrdie notes how this little bottle is jam-packed with vitamin C and collagen to combat dry or dull skin. Think of it as a nutrient that you can apply directly to your face and neck. And the best part: It smells like fresh orange juice!

Why I Love It: The lightness of this serum makes my skin instantly brighter and tighter. I usually apply this product at night after washing my face and then follow it up with a night cream, like Ole Henriksen’s Invigorating Night Transformation Creme. I am also just obsessed with the smell.
