For those of us in Austin, Spring Break is a time to hit the lakes and get our tan on. (Ermmm, SPF lathered tan, that is!) We may not have the world’s best beaches, but since when is sand necessary to have a rad Spring Break? While your friends are sipping on premixed smoothies at some generic resort, you could have the same sun-soaked weather, but in a city of endless possibilities!
Spring Break is prime weather time for Austin. 70s with a touch of 80s allows for outdoor fun without feeling like your face will melt off in the sun. Here are a few recommendations on how to make Austin your best spring break yet! We have teamed up with Aerie to showcase the best looks for Austin.
Fashion
You don’t have to be dressed like Kate Moss to strut the streets of downtown Austin. Unlike NYC where streets are the runway, the city dwellers of Austin focus on comfort chic. It gets much hotter during the middle of the day, so it’s smart to wear layers you can take off. These Aerie pink crop sweatpants are lightweight and loose-fit, so they don’t overheat your skin. Pair them with a cute tank and you’re ready to explore the city. Getting too hot for comfort? Switch the sweats with a cute pair of shorties to cool down. And don’t forget to pack hair elastics to sweep up your hair and give your neck a breather. These bands are extra thick, which prevents hair follicles from breaking.
Shopping
Austin might as well be the vintage capital of the world. Take thrift shopping to the next level and visit my favorite spots including Flashback Vintage, Feathers Boutique, Cream Vintage, Splendor, and Thrift Town. Don’t want to hop around the city? The hip and vibrant SoCo district is home to rows of colorful vintage shops and munchie-friendly food trailers.
Entertainment
If you’re in the mood to get soaked by the sun, pack a swimsuit and visit Lake Travis. Austin’s biggest lake offers a myriad of activities; you can dine in front of a stunning lake view restaurant (I recommend checking out the Oasis), go on an Airscape parasailing adventure, and splash around at the Volente Beach Water Park. If you’re looking for the perfect swimsuit, I recommend the Mia Bikini by Aerie. It’s feminine, versatile, and ultra flattering (especially for those of us with smaller chests!)
Food
Speaking of food, Austin is home to some of the best Tex-Mex establishments around. If you haven’t tried queso before, you’re in for a treat! Kerbey Lane Cafe and Magnolia Cafe have some of the best in town. And if you’re not craving comfort food, Eastside Cafe has some of the freshest veggie dishes in town.
Wherever you end up visiting during your stay in Austin, rest assured that the sunrays will follow you!
Spring Break is a momentous week in every college student’s year. Whether you’re traveling to the ends of the world, living it up on the beach, catching up on your fashion homework or tucked inside sleeping, we want to see!
