Now that summer is in full swing I’ve been seeing a ton of floral dresses, cut off jeans, rompers, cropped tops and, surprisingly, combat boots. When this trend first popped up, I’m not going to lie, I thought it was a bit strange. Who would want a pair of leather boots strapped to their feet in 35 degrees Celcius heat? So I decided to see what all the fuss was about and gave them a try. I finally understood! They added some edge and flare to my outfit. Plus if you put the right pair of socks on with them your feet may be a little warm, but they’re incredibly comfortable. This week’s Fashionista has mastered the art of summer combat boots. She pairs them with fun, flirty and feminine pieces that stay true to summer style.
Name: Norah Elvidge
Major: Medial in Politics and Global Development
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: What is your favorite piece of clothing and why?
Norah Elvidge: These boots — I got them in Spain for like 12 Euro. I love the laces and the studs, plus they go with everything
CF: Do you have pieces that you wear in all four seasons?
NE: Definitely these boots, my American Apparel floral mesh jumper and pretty much all of my skirts. During the winter I just wear them with tights.
CF: When you get dressed in the morning what influences you more, comfort or style?
NE: Both — because I’m a student I need to be able to sit in the library for hours on end, but look good doing it.
CF: Do you follow trends?
NE: I don’t follow runway trends but I am influenced by what I see around campus. I make my own style because I’m on a student budget which makes it hard to go out and buy new clothes whenever the trends change, I just reinvent pieces.
How To: Don’t be afraid to rock your combat boots over the summer months; they’re a great way to switch up the season's trends, but they also look great in the fall and winter. If you don’t have a pair and are looking to buy this is the perfect time because they’ll be on sale, Amazon will have a great selection, with competitve prices.
