Anyone who knows me (or has watched me pack for a trip) knows that I have one fashion weakness: a great pair of shoes. I first noticed Taryn Harris' perfectly worn in combat boots as I was walking past her on my way to class. After a quick introduction, this Freshman Chemical Engineering major here at UMD was nice enough to share some of her fashion wisdom with me.
CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your personal style?
Taryn Harris: I would call myself very laid-back and chill. I like to mix thrift store finds with current trends, things you’d find in the mall. I also love vintage items; sometimes I take my mom’s sweaters from the 80’s and wear them (after I take out the shoulder pads, of course!)
CF: Who or what inspires your style?
TH: My style icon is definitely Rihanna. I don’t love her music, but she is always dressed to perfection. I also like to get a lot of inspiration from my peers and things I see on social media sites, like Tumblr.
CF: What is your must-have fall item?
TH: Definitely some comfy cardigans and boots that you can throw on a look fabulous in.
CF: What style advice would you offer to other Fashionistas?
TH: An outfit is just how you feel that day. It is a great way to express yourself- but don’t over think it! Fashion should always be fun, never stressful.
How To: If you love Taryn’s look, try it for yourself. Start with some warm, knitted leggings and an extra long tank top. Add a cool, white denim jacket with some great detailing. Finish off the look with some worn in combat boots and a great, color-pop messenger bag to make the vibe complete.
