The recent Polar Vortex that hit Pittsburgh had many people huddled inside for days on end clutching hot cocoa and gazing into a faux fire streaming on a television. Once the temperatures were no longer in the negatives, many people around campus wanted to utilize all their built-up energy the best way they knew how – with a night out. The first week back at school, known as syllabus week, is full of social events and nights on the town, and with so many options at our still numb fingertips, it’s to be expected that we should leave the comforts of our cozy blankets and venture out into the world.
I caught this bold Fashionista on her way to dinner before a night out in Oakland. I was instantly attracted to her statement jacket – a plush coat that was the perfect mix between neutral colors and a fun print. Naturally, Pittsburgh being the winter wonderland that it is, a snug jacket is essential for any night on the town. Rather than throwing on any old jacket, this Fashionista used the added layer as a means of both warmth and style. She pulled off a bodycon dress in the winter by adding sheer patterned tights and studded boots to her look. She chose a simple pendant necklace to complete the outfit. Take after her and don’t let the cold weather hinder your ability to look stylish on the first weekend back on campus!
One Simple Change: On colder nights, swap the tights and dress for black skinny jeans and an embellished top. Keep everything else the same and you’re good to go!
