It’s well into January and if you’re lucky, you’re still on winter break relaxing at home with friends and family, free from library meetings, project work and studying for exams. The cold weather can get you in a slump, making you not want to leave your house, let alone your bed. But let’s be honest, you’re on break and when’s the next time your going to have a chance to catch up with old high school friends, shop the local malls and get your nails done while picking up an ever so delicious cup of hot cocoa?
This Fashionista pulled together the perfect outfit for winter break activities while still dressing fashionable and seasonally appropriate. There always seems to be a constant battle in the winter months of dressing stylish without freezing your bum off or worse, ending up looking like an over-stuffed Eskimo. This Fashionista managed to find the perfect balance of clothing that was both fashionable and functional. First off, she is right on trend with her red and black plaid cape jacket. Plaid was all over the runways as a fall and winter trend for 2012. With such a bold pattern on top, she decided to keep the rest of her outfit simple and clean by wearing all black, which makes it sophisticated. The jacket leaves her arms free and exposed which makes for easy movement, while the jacket is brought in at the waist by an adorable matching fabric tie. She pairs her jacket with a pair of black leggings from LOFT and Steve Madden wedge booties. One accessory I absolutely adore is her black knit turban ,which serves not only as an added accessory but keeps her ears and head warm in the process. Free People has a great selection of head and hair accessories that can add just the right amount of pop to an outfit. Black leggings are a wardrobe staple and are so versatile, so it’s worth it to spend some extra cash on a pair that is thicker and made from quality fabrics that way you can have them for the long run as opposed to buying a cheaper pair and getting only a few wears out of them.
One Simple Change: If you have busy day planned ahead of you or an activity that involves a lot of walking, switch out the wedge booties for a pair of combat boots for an edgy look or a pair of black flats for a cleaner, sophisticated look.
